This sounds good, and looks like there’s some qualifiers in some unique nations too which is always good, Asian standard was on the up prior to covid so hopefully they can start to kick on again

At least it gives everyone a chance its means all everyone gets a chance like Ilagan and Malicdem can both qualify again instead of only 1 of them. I think this is bad news for Lim however.

Are the events in the new nations only open to players from those nations? I don't imagine they did this hoping to get a Macanese or an Emirati player involved, I imagine it's to give the various Hong Kong players and Kumar a shot

He doesn't have a free path like he did last year when he won the Singapore qualifier, but still, you'd imagine he's there or thereabouts in the top 4 in Asia still, a lot of the big name players have dropped off having not played much in recent times, Lim has had quite a bit of TV exposure over the last few years

Interesting that Mongolia is included in this, previously I believe they were in the EADC region with the ex-Soviet states, but obviously world events suggest that particular qualifier probably won't go ahead...

He might not, but given the circumstances, I'm not sure there are 4 players in Asia who are playing better on a consistent basis

A few of the Japs are playing better or at least to the same standard you then have Ilagan, Malicdem, Perez and Escaros from Philippines plus Lam and Kumar and Kai Fan might see it as an opportunity and travel.

I personally hope Paul does make it but from what I've seen the last few months he needs to improve. Let's see what happens at the World Cup

Well there are dozens of Japanese who can play to a respectable standard on their day, but nobody who has really taken the bull by the horns. Fair play to Ilagan who always finds a way to make it to the TV events, but again, he's generally quite pedestrian, haven't seen anything of Malicdem for ages as he's always been knocked out early in Filipino events, not sure about Perez of late, never seen Escaros. Hope Leung and Kumar have a go as they've made some effort over in this part of the world (I'm sure they had Kumar in mind when they added the UAE event as I'm pretty sure he still lives there!)

Do we know what the format will be? I presume there'll be a group stage somewhere as it seems the only way 48 will go into 4. Of course, a knockout tournament does spell danger, especially in a part of the world which is pretty steady if not spectacular

And do we know if they will continue to have separate events in individual countries?

Would guess the 13 regional qualifiers are restricted to those countries, maybe with the exception of the UAE one.

The big route into the tournament will be the on-site qualifying anyway, there are at least 27 places up for grabs there.

Click through to the pdc.tv article from the tweet, it's all in there. 16 groups of 3, winners go through.

16 groups of 3, winners go on to last 16, straight knockout from there
