Re: Randall's top Columbo episodes
Well here we are
The grand final.
Like lakeside not the 1 I expected to be fair
When we began I had a handful of favourites, 1 of which has made it here.
I do enjoy the iq film but it's probably not in my top 10
The killers arrogance in his intelligence and contempt for others was always going to make for a fun conclusion.
In the end he couldn't help bragging.
Also like the penny scale test, his umbrella analogy and of course Jamie Lee.
All that said for me it's not in the same league as murder by the book
Cassady played all his villains with a glint in his eye but this is his best.
The irony of it being his one good idea that finally sank him makes it sweeter
Love the misdirection murder and him casually reading his mail while calling in a dead body on his lawn that tipped columbo off to him.
The stupidity of the woman trying to blackmail him the only real loose thread
Overall I'm going with a 4 point difference
Iq 8 - 12 by the book

The Bye Bye... IQ Murder Case 9-11 Murder by the Book
In my memory the worlds of the two films are very different from each other. There's an introverted feel to IQ while Book takes on the world and the stakes feel higher. Apart from the killer, none of the other characters in IQ stick in the mind - I don't really count JLC. But in Book we get Cassidy plus the fantastic toothy woman. She's as strong as him. The more this game has gone on, the more fond I've become of it. I'll give it a thin win. It was only the margin of victory that was in doubt really.

A very worthy winner
Given a random draw if done again it may have produced a result.
Murder by the book is certainly in my top 3 or 4
Cassady is the best villain for me
I loved now you see him, although publish or perish is quite poor.

Re: Randall's top Columbo episodes
The random draw really did put a lot of fun stuff quite unkindly through the mincer.
I came into this thinking that McGoohan was my favourite murderer. I'm not so sure now. His actual films at least haven't really stood up to much here, have they? I think I now agree with you about Cassidy.

Re: Randall's top Columbo episodes
It's cassady or culp
I couldn't say any of mcgoohans characters live in the mind at all
Ashes to ashes
The Leslie neilsen one
The chewing gum one
Off hand I can't remember his other ones?

By Dawn's Early Light... which is a bit of a borefest relatively speaking. Was there a fifth? I'd have to look it up.

I didn't know either way. Just checked and it's four. Plus various writer and production credits.
