Her sex costume was in the briefcase and she was preparing to burn it in her fireplace just as Columbo turns up. He notices the briefcase and picks it up, saying oooh it's hot, you could have scorched it. He spends the rest of the scene holding this absolute Exhibit A evidence while she is quietly going potty.
