Actually given up on a few, Ashley bell by Dean Koontz a prime example.

Started The Thicket by Joe Lansdale.
Lansdale has done some good horror stuff, but this is more of a dark western.

He's more famous for his noir and crime stuff these days. Seen the film "Cold In July"? That's one of his. And the Hap & Leonard series is now a TV drama. The Elvis v the mummy film "Bubba-Ho-Tep" was one of his too.
In the 80's he was more horror though - The Nightrunners was good, and there are some good short story collections I've read - High Cotton and Bumper Crop.
He does some Sci-Fi and western stuff too - bit of a jack of all trades.

I'll have a look.
Always looking for different authors as I tend to read crime a lot and it can get very samey.

I've read two of the history collection so far and both been good. Breaks up all the crime I read.
