Only two episodes in but I'm liking it well enough.
Keep me entertained for a few evenings.

Was brilliantly written and executed, a timeless classic. The reboot was crapRogg wrote:Yes Minister again. Majestic.

No nuance anywhere to be seen and a rubbish ending but I actually really enjoyed the reboot.Father Rout wrote:Was brilliantly written and executed, a timeless classic. The reboot was crapRogg wrote:Yes Minister again. Majestic.
Based on a stage play I believe, the whole thing set in two rooms over 6 episodes. No expense spared by Gold.

Yap, I got the boxset for Christmas. Magnificent. Up to series 3 now, watched the subliminal advertising ep last night, which has a reputation but I'd never seen it before. Pretty nifty.Randall wrote:Got the whole lot on dvd.Rogg wrote:Columbo!

Have you ever seen the TV series of The Ellery Queen Mysteries?

Remember the subliminal message one well, Robert culp was the killer, he was in a couple.Rogg wrote:Yap, I got the boxset for Christmas. Magnificent. My absolute favourite was the one where Columbo's boss is the killer.
No, never heard of Ellery Queen.
You might want to check out motive which is colomboesque.

The only people in it so far that I've recognised are Joan Collins and Vincent Price. Neither was the killer, sadly. Spoilers.Randall wrote:Remember the subliminal message one well, Robert culp was the killer, he was in a couple.Rogg wrote:Yap, I got the boxset for Christmas. Magnificent. I will check that series out. You might like Ellery Queen, it has a Jonathan Creek 'impossible mystery' thing going on sometimes, locked rooms and so on. Ellery addresses the audience directly in each episode just before he reveals the killer. Actually breaks the fourth wall, which is quaint.

There's a 70s US show called Banacek. I've only ever seen one ep but it seems the nearest concept to Jonathan Creek that I know about.Randall wrote:If it's like Jonathan creek I'll give it a look, loved that show.

That's the one I've seen, oddly enough. The synopsisiseses are pure Creek:Father Rout wrote:Remember it well, the episode when an American footballer goes missing is mentalRandall wrote:George Peppard!
Banacek is called in after a football player vanishes on national TV.
Banacek investigates the disappearance of a valuable prototype automobile, and the flatcar it was riding on, from a moving train.
Banacek searches for a valuable church artifact that disappeared from a sealed box.
A charity art exhibit disappears right off the truck during shipment.
Banacek must locate a three-ton statue that disappeared.
A stage magician, suspected of grand larceny, disappears during his act — but for real.

Meanwhile Johnny Cash turned up in Columbo! An episode of it anyway. Wasn't expecting that.
Spock was in one too. Playing a sinister doctor. Columbo was absolutely seething.

Slamming the water bottle down was the only time he ever got angry that I recall.
