What a div.

The last 3 episodes had their moments, but they were pointless really. It should have indeed ended in 1996.

The early ones are by far the best
2nd and 3rd series are superb A losing streak being my fav in series 2

Still think To Hull and Back and The Jolly Boys outing are genius

Strange fright in series 7 aswell with Tony Angelino
Titles escape me but I like the card game and statue ones
Card game is a losing streak fantastic episode

To Hull and Back is possibly my favourite 90 mins of TV. Just a delight.

There's an episode of The Detectives called 'Dutch Cops' which is similar in several ways, also filmed in Amsterdam. It always reminds me of OFAH.

Looks like the BBC is finally starting to give OFAH the physical media treatment it deserves. Blu-Ray, November 22nd.

The Jolly Boys Outing on your DVD has a scene missing. A Royal Flush is missing about 20 minutes because John Sullivan hated it. The whole DVD collection of OFAH is pretty shoddy really. All kinds of stuff was cut or dubbed, a big factor being that the BBC didn't clear the rights for background music.

My Nan has the original unedited version on DVD.
It came with the Only Fools and Horses magazines produced in the mid 00’s.

Guess it’s worthless now.

She used to buy the magazine for my Brother and I, so we could watch the DVD’s when we went round on Sundays.

No idea if she bought all of them in the end.
They’re probably in her spare room somewhere.

I mixed up the "Royal Flush" episode with the "A Losing Streak" episode above.

I remember now that Sullivan didn't like how Del came across in the former episode.

He’s right as well.
I’ve not seen the episode as many times as I have the others.

Del is an utter bellend.

As Jimmi says, it was about Del's character. You may remember better than I do but I think Del believes himself to be saving Rodney from heartbreak by wrecking his reputation on the shooting weekend thingy... and comes across as a complete arsehole. It's especially grim bearing in mind that this was made for Christmas Day.

Sullivan wasn't present at the recording as he was working on some other show. He was asked years later if there was anything about OFAH that he'd have done differently and he said he wouldn't have made A Royal Flush at all, rofl. The vid below shows what he cut, reducing it from 80 to 60 mins. I've never seen the whole version.

Cheers, makes sense.

My recollection is that Del didn't even give a toss about Rodney's potential heartbreak. He manipulated the Duke to pay Rodney to stop seeing his daughter. Rodney turned the Duke's offer down, much to Del's annoyance.

There's loads of stuff online about what's been cut from the DVDs or edited.

Even the music from 'The Omen' when Rodney sees Damien has been dubbed over by some vaguely similar crappy thing and that's a really iconic comedy bit.

The 5-minute cut from Jolly Boys is because of the song being played in the background at the bar. They couldn't replace it neatly I guess so they hacked out the entire scene. Elegant.

I don't know what the problem is with the music. Why couldn't the BBC just clear the rights in the first place? The DVD episodes don't even have commentaries and there are no special features etc. Compare to the DVD treatment given to Doctor Who... a show like OFAH does deserve better.

Looks like I was being too kind to Del in my memory of the events then. A most interesting fuck-up of a film and I've never ever seen the version with the extra bad bits left in.

When they're at the opera and he really is being a complete tit, a nice box of 80s liquorice allsorts for Randall. He won't be able to see it but still.
I think one cut is where he screws up the empty box and tosses it away.
