It's a difficult concept that one. I still think the Italians were on the way to overtaking the English at that point.

I doubt the Liverpool teams that followed '85 would have got near the gullit, van basten, rijkaard Milan side.

we will never know, what we do know though was/ is it took a long while to get back to a point of dominance in any sense of the word

just shamrock rovers last year, as far as I know and considering the turmoil the club went through its a great achievement.
