The World Chess Championship 2016

Post by Sprocket501 » Tue Nov 08, 2016 8:57 pm

The World Championship in New York between Magnus Carlsen and Sergey Karjakin starts in a few days. What can we expect? Will Carlsen go for an Anti-Sicilian with 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.c3? Will he play the Scandinavian or Modern with black against 1.e4, and the Ragozin against 1.d4?

Starting Friday and lasting over three weeks, twelve top-class games to decide the next World Champion.

Anything from a few mins to eight hours. Modern day chess is all computer driven now though so draws are more plentiful.

Ask Gaz, he loves it!

Though I might watch a few games from it, but have no desire to sit for hours watching chess.

You might be better off then waiting til the following day and watching fifteen minute analyses on youtube. The games themselves are live with commentary each time. As it's in New York, they will be on during our evenings.

Carlsen often plays less known lines to confuse opponents in lesser games.
The world level games the last two times have seemingly always gone the same route.
Berlin with Queens off last time wasn't overly exciting.
