Re: cricket thread
That's the end of that then, 2 dead tests to play in Melbourne and Sydney now.
When are the ECB going to wake up and put in a ban on all these Kolpak players clogging up the county game so that our home grown kids get the chance to play and develop on the county circuit. Hopefully this would lead to more English born and bred youngsters coming through at an earlier age into the test squad.
I remember James Vince from youth cricket here in rural Wiltshire, he was decent but we never thought he was good enough to make a test cricketer.
There have been other lads from around here who made it through to county academies who were far better than Vince but, due to Kolpaks being the norm for counties now then these lads have discarded and some simply give up the sport having been totally disillusioned with the way they've been treated.

Don't worry Mabbsy, in 2 years time I will be bemoaning the Aussie batsmen's inability to cope with a hint of swing.Mabbsy wrote:That's the end of that then, 2 dead tests to play in Melbourne and Sydney now.

By the way that is now 8 of the last 9 Ashes won by the home team, all except 2005 pretty easily.
Forget T20, Kolpak players etc. The biggest threat to Test Cricket is home teams preparing pitches to suit their team. Would love to see something done about preparing some decent pitches, possibly even employ neutral groundsmen. As it stands, I fear it may be a long time before we even get a competitive series, let alone a team winning the Ashes away.

Need to get rid of the deadwood and bring in fresh players. Malan has been the stand out performer.Randall wrote:cant recall someone making 400 first knock and still losing by an innings.

Not sure of your familiarity with the Big Bash, but there's a few around. Not sure how much Shield cricket they play, though.Randall wrote:Is there much leg spin in shield cricket at the minute?Captain Hobo wrote:He can't be worse than Moeen. Mitchell Swepson from Queensland is the best, Adam Zampa and Fawad Ahmed play Shield regularly as well I believe.

Know very little these days, back in the day I was a bit of a cricketing anorak.
Every team needs a world class spinner, leggy so much the better.
Edmonds and emburey never really scared anyone.
