I still feel England should have six around the bat, far too cautious for my liking

I'm inclined to agree, we're still only in day 3 so plenty of time but this pitch is not a batters pitch so I think Cook is thinking he doesn't want to be chasing much so just keeping the runs down.

He's giving the batters a chance to settle though and there's still runs in this pitch if they do. Ponting would have crowded the bat and put them under immense pressure

Great day for England. Is it too much to ask for England to be chasing no more than 50?

england totally reliant on 4 players in this game. be nice if a few others chipped in next time.

The quicks are totally ineffective on these pitches and may as well not be there. Easy enough to add another batter and drop Broad next time up

hard to disagree. if we had another specialist spinner just pack the bowling with them.

Apparantly the next test match wicket will have less help for spinners and have a bit more life for the quicks so who khows what sort of bowling attack England will pick..

If that's the case I'd still drop Broad along with Patel, bring back Bell and Finn should be fit

patel should never have been in the team anyway, bits and pieces cricketers, as dravid said will achieve little in test cricket.

dermot reeve springs to mind.

Can add a load to that list mate. Pringle and Capel are the first in my mind

you could name any of the "all rounders" that followed botham and those two would be prime candidates.

chris lewis was another who flattered to deceive, though better than your two.

Lewis was a better bowler than the others in my opinion but never an all rounder.

There was another, son of a selector or someone in the establishment that actually got to captain England because of injuries but I can't place the name
