They just gave Dave Warner the Allan Border Medal for best Australian cricketer of the last year.

Seriously.

It takes all forms into Account and Marnus mainly played Tests so didn't even make the Top 3.

Smith and Cummins both would have been worthy winners.

Seriously, Tests are weighted higher than ODI/T20s, but the 5 Tests at Home count the same as The Ashes. Warner made a lot of runs in those.

Marnus did win Test Player of the year though.

The AB Medal has a history of some crazy results.

In 2001 Colin Miller won Test Player of the year by only polling in 2 matches. There were not many Tests that year and a few players were tied on 6 votes, and he won the countback by having the most 3 votes.

Decided to compile a World Test XI as well. Same time period. Lara, Wasim, Steyn and Ambrose all terribly unlucky to miss out.

Gordon Greenidge
Alastair Cook
Viv Richards
Sachin Tendulkar
Steve Smith
Adam Gilchrist
Andrew Flintoff
Shane Warne (c)
Malcolm Marshall
Muttiah Muralidaran
Glenn McGrath

Come to think of it, Matt Hayden was also unlucky. Team could easily have been.

Greenidge
Hayden
Richards
Lara
Smith
Gilchrist
Wasim Akram
Warne (c)
Muralidaran
Steyn
Ambrose

Aha
Interesting lists.
5 batsman 5 bowlers and a wicketkeeper used to be the norm but almost unheard of now.
Will think about mine.

I always thought Australia should use Gilchrist at 6 more when he was in his prime, but they didn't do it often.

With a Top 6 like the World team you would hardly need much from the rest.

How in this reality can Flintoff best Botham?
