The US open when Cilic won it was lightning fast. The only year it's been quick since about 09. Think cilic has a chance. Fed is favourite no doubt but I wouldn't be rushing to the bookies at the odds available.
After Wimbledon my hopes wouldn't be high.
Mens tennis has dropped off a cliff since the high of 4 years ago.

Everybody says how well the older players are doing to stay at the top longer than in the old days (The Sampras era bar Agassi were usually past their best in their late 20s) but it's only because the next generation have been so poor. I've no faith at all in thiem dimitrov etc and even the generation after them zverev etc I'm not sold on at all yet.

The era Federer won the bulk of his majors in was generally poor.
The era sampras was in, other than clay courters it was generally weak opposition.
Becker at least had edberg.
Mcenroe had borg, Connors and willander, the only comparable era to the Nadal, Federer, Murray, djokovic era.
Now its bleak.

Federer 8/11 to win the event now. Think he was 6/4 before the Nadal match?

Yeah he was around 6/4. I wouldn't be lumping on at 8/11 court is reasonably fast someone could blow him away although obviously they'll have to play their absolute best. Everyone thought he'd win that us open after nishikori got rid of djoko and along came Cilic.

He was before my time, I couldn't name anybody he had to play.
For me Mcenroe was the best I ever saw on grass.
Nadal on clay.
Hard courts probably djokovic.

You have not heard of Ken Rosewall or Roy Emerson?

Only really remember Sampras as a great grass courter too young to remember McEnroe. Fed obviously the best on the grass as it is now which is to say nothing like it used to be when I first started watching. Nadal obviously the best on clay. Hard depends on speed djoko the best on the slow ones i.e. Miami Indian wells Aussie open as it used to be. Federer probably the best I've seen on the quicker ones like how the US open was, Cincinnati is also another one that plays fast usually and I think he's won that 8 times.

Grass courts now are a completely different thing.
Also, a lot like darts, look at the technology.
Put a small wooden racket in Federers hands and he ain't playing as he does.
Mcenroe was a magician.

I've seen short videos of McEnroe but as I say he was at his peak before my time. Grass is definitely not how it was far slower and higher bouncing now. Very quick and low when Sampras was doing his thing and I dare say even more so when McEnroe was winning Wimbledon.

I well remember the borg v Mcenroe finals.
His finest hour was probably his disposal of Connors in 84.
Although you may recall his destruction of Becker at the Australian open in 91. Literally reduced him to a screaming wreck. Was taking his serve early and chipping and charging him to the net.
Hands were ludicrously fast.

Certainly wouldn't argue with that.
Stats suggest djokovic is better than either of them.

Djokovic 2016 is one of the most crazy good single seasons I have lived through in any sport.

Really should have done the calendar year grand slam.

First half of it was. Second half not so good. Once he won the four in a row his motivation seemed to nosedive. Not sure he'll win many if any more now although obviously injury has as much to do with that as desire.
