Great stuff from Stan to beat Medvedev. Nadal v Nick is a fair old dust up as well.
Boring Brendas number one and (almost) only fan.
Smithys number one and (definitely not) only hater.

Aus Open courts are much slower than US Open.

Yep Probably the closest thing to a clay court hence why some clay court players always have runs there top half baring Zverev are all clay court players

Wouldn't make sense to have 2 Slams on grass.
They changed to the current surface (Plexicushion) in about 2006 as the previous one was so slow. It was meant to be quicker but this year seems to be the slowest for a long time, and plays even slower at night.

None of the top players used to play the Australian for years from memory.Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 9:25 pmWouldn't make sense to have 2 Slams on grass.

Was before my time but until 1987 it was played at Kooyong on grass over Christmas and the attendance and Prize Money was much lower than now.Randall wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 10:18 pmNone of the top players used to play the Australian for years from memory.Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 9:25 pmWouldn't make sense to have 2 Slams on grass.

Moved to Melbourne Park and current timeslot in 1988 and most top players have attended since. Andre Agassi was the last major player who didn't bother to play it, until he won it in 95.

Re: tennis thread- Sponsored by Queer Cunts
Noticed that the tennis Australia is having a little bit of a problem dealing with the existence of Margaret Court. They tried to honor the 50th anniversary of her 1970 clean sweep while trying to avoid how batshit insane she is. Didn't quite work.
Cant think of another example in sport where such an important achiever was so flat out mad. Plenty of sex pests who just about get away with it, but none who belong in the loony bin quite like her.

They did the best they could, once she made it clear she wasn't going to be happy if they just ignored the anniversary, which is what they wanted to do.Emulsfier wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 12:26 am Noticed that the tennis Australia is having a little bit of a problem dealing with the existence of Margaret Court. It looked pretty stupid presenting her the same Cup as the winner gets now, like she has just won the tournament though!

McEnroe would have had a few more slams if he had played. Probably to do with travel costs back then?

It was much smaller than the other Majors then. Prize Money was much lower and in 1974 Jimmy Connors earned 40 Ranking points for winning, while the other 3 Majors that year were worth 120 each.

Theim did very well to maintain composure and grind that out.
Should beat Zverev next, but it will take a true miracle to stop Djokovic adding to his AO pile.
Fed would have been done in either of his previous matches if he wasnt the luckiest of bastards. No luck gonna help him here. Dont see Thiem having the power of peak Stan to blast Novak off the court either.
