Its something that I usually see on in the bookmakers in the morning over here, cant say I follow it to be honest. 8 runners is a bit of a novelty it must be said, in the UK its a maximum of six.

8 runners is only the maximum, some tracks here are running 6 dog races all the time now. Some races have Vacant boxes and no reserves so get reduced as well. We have far too many meetings and fewer dogs being bred than even 5 years ago.

In Victoria you now get 21 TAB meetings a week, 20 years ago it was 12 TAB plus 1 non-TAB. And they just announced they will be running extra meetings over winter to make up the ones they will have to cancel in summer due to heat.

I reckon all races will be 6 dog within a couple of years.

Industry dying a death over here, they have just closed Poole down.

It is dying off in places here, but still very strong in VIC, doing OK in QLD and Country NSW.

Took a big hit with the Live baiting scandal a few years back. NSW State government based in Sydney announced they would close it down in the whole state, forced to backflip when all the country people in their Coalition revolted.
