Newbie question - Practice!!!!!!

Post by Dogtoothcowboy » Tue May 19, 2015 10:48 am

Hi everyone,

My wonderful wife recently bought me a dartboard which i am eternally grateful for and i am loving playing. I have been playing for about 6 weeks now. I know this is not very long to play but i have a question regarding practice.
I know the more you practice the better you can become but i am really quite restricted with the amount of practice i can get in a week. I work very long days and am out of the house for 14 hours. Practice during the week is just not feasible.
I do get to play about 3 - 5 hours across the weekend.
So my question is this. If i can only really practice at the weekends am i kidding myself that i will improve much? I am never expecting to go pro but i would like to improve on my current performance. Do you think daily practice is a must or can you achieve progression with weekend only practice?

Thanks everyone. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

3 -5 hours practice will see you make an improvement.

What does your practice sessions consist of?

Cheers guys,

Well i usually warm up with round the clock singles, doubles and trebles.
Then i just go to town on whatever my weakness was the last time i played anyone. Doubles is a major focus as they are a real problem for me.
I play games such as bobs 27's. Just trying to keep it fun really.
Any further suggestions for meaningful practice?

My theory on practice is simple, scoring all the way.

Reason being if you can't score you won't get a chance at a double and they will take care of themselves

Yep you have a point.
Although the most frustrating thing was getting to a double 6 darts before my father in law and not being able to hit it!!! He beat me every time. Couldnt score high but could check out a lot faster than me.
Thats when i decided i needed practice on the doubles ha ha.
I guess it all needs work so a variety will make you a better all round player.

Only my opinion but the best practice on doubles is against someone when it kind of matters. If you can't score you wont get that practice
