Playing sober

really doesn't work for me. I need at least a pint to relax and focus. Is this a problem?

Your seriously off the mark if you think needing one pint before playing is a problem mate.
If that's all it takes then savour it and enjoy and dont worry.
Personally 'a pint' does fuck all for me, and kid myself that to get into the zone i need at least six.

Back when I was a better player and played for a pub team, I was the total opposite. If I had a drink befiore playing I would be really crap. I would wait until after my game before drinking. Used to hatebeing last on.

I suppose it would be ok now I don't drink, but back then I used to drink with the best of them and I'd be counting down the minutes until I could get my hands on that lovely pint (usually bought by my opponent, sweeeet).

I've only gone t-total (ish) through necessity.

Am the same when it comes to the hand steadying fluid, need at least three to even release the arrers with any kind of accuracy.

So what is this? Nerves?

Occurs to me that it's psychological as it's logically backwards that you'd be better at something in a less controlled state.

Dunno Sat but DFW did make a lot of sense when we talked about it. He asked me if I could screw up a bit of paper and chuck it in a bin a few feet away which of course I said yes. Then he said what's the difference between chucking the paper and chucking an arrer? In theory there's none really, is there?

Helps take the edge off the nerves (I still get a little nervous during a match) It probably is all psychological, it's just about getting my head right
