Changing Your Stance
No secret my back's gone and it's looking like a permanent condition so I'm trying to change my stance to accommodate.
My natural stance is side on with pretty much all my weight on my right leg which unfortunately is the leg affected by the sciatic nerve. Especially the lower leg and big toe.
Also before I play I take a diclofenac which doesn't react with alcohol, give my leg and back a good going over with Voltarol and take a freeze spray to the pub. I'm now at the point I can go about twenty five legs before it really gets painful but for most of the time it's uncomfortable.
Now a stand face on and twist my back to get as side on as I can, it actually works to a degree and the results so far are quite encouraging by my standard. Two ton plus finishes yesterday with another couple missed on the wire, some decent scoring but way too many total shite scores even by my standard.
Any advice lads?

Why not have a break for a month and see if the pain eases up.
have you still be practising daily through the pain?

Re: Changing Your Stance
I don't play daily but a couple of times a week mate and yes, I've been playing through the pain. Initially without any meds but it was just too painful but the meds are helping, just not enough at the moment.
I've known for years that this was coming, it was only a matter of when not if. The pain eases when I'm moving which is a good thing but all my weight on the affected leg isn't.
I'm determined not to allow this to stop me doing anything and trying to find ways to manage it as best I can.

At the end of the day you've got to adjust to be comfortable. Pointless chucking when in pain. Whatever style you find that gives you less grief is something to work on.

The thing is mate it's either play though the discomfort or not play at all. I don't want to stop playing as I enjoy it but I want to find a way to ease the pain. Left handed is an option but I'd hate to be the one chalking!gazman wrote:At the end of the day you've got to adjust to be comfortable. Pointless chucking when in pain.
