Be (very) careful what you wish for...

Post by Cooking with Sanchez » Wed May 11, 2011 1:43 pm

So I played my last match for Bedfordshire on Saturday against Oxfordshire, and knew who I wanted to play before I got there.

There's a guy I've known for a few years and I really wanted to play him as he's a bit cocky and I wanted to take him down a peg or two.

Also there were two A spots for the Sunday and I wanted to sign out in style before moving to Buckinghamshire next season.

I cruised 2-1 up with a couple of 19 darters, then went to pieces and lost 3-2.

In fairness to the guy he'd become a lot less arrogant since last time I saw him and in the fifth leg he hit 150 to leave 40 and I messed up my shot at 124 for the match.

I dunno if I tried too hard, or put too much pressure on myself to win but it wasn't good; averages were 22 for me and 23 for him.

What really fucks me off is how good I am in practice:

Pretty standard practice, I never average less than 30 in practice.

How the fuck do I take it to the match? I'm sure it's been asked hundreds of times.

Rant over.

Let's hope so! I play better in competitions anyway, here's hoping for the day of my life!

Sickeningly high standard that mate.
Maybe you did put too much pressure on yourself playing that guy you really wanted to beat. I'm sure you'll do him next time, just play your normal darts though and not worry about grudge matches.

You're probably right mate, I'd have had no issue if he'd played awesome and sneaked it, he just didn't play at a level that I should ever lose to and that's what's annoyed me.

It's a simple game but the moment you think of things like' i should be beating this guy' when your throwing etc is the moment you lose concentration on the goal at hand.
Just put the blinkers on, shut out who your playing and how well HE is throwing, concentrate on what you can do because you know yourself when you do focus and play your own game you'll beat him.

You're completely right, I need to work on the mental side of my game because I don't think there's much wrong with the simple task of throwing my darts.

never played anywhere apart from my bedroom mate(tee hee), so its probably not a true reflection, as im sure plenty of people can throw great darts in the bedroom on there own. none of my mates are massively into darts.

the plan is to go to opens eventually, now i'm finally setlled on a throw/setup.

also that was only for 5 legs. i was playing if i hit 24 or under i win the leg, anything else lose the leg. won 10-7.

need to work on my consistency
